Are things other than Tabletop Role-Playing Games allowed?

+6
−0

At first glance, the name of the site is "Tabletop Role-Playing Games", so it obviously excludes LARPs and roleplaying outside of the D&D-style. The current top answer on the original proposal also strongly supports this scope, (all the example on-topic questions are based on the D&D style).

On the other hand, there was some discussion of including LARPs in the scope, though it seems like more of an afterthought, and it doesn't look like there has been an actual scope proposal for LARPs (see the aforementioned lack of presence in the on-topic examples).

Now that the site has been launched, I've decided to move that specific discussion to here on Tabletop RPG Meta. Should LARPs or other non-Tabletop RPGs be on topic here on Tabletop RPGs?

This is a good discussion to have. The site proposal on Meta is intended to establish a starting point; communities can and should further develop things. The top-voted answer on the proposal includes this:

The idea would be to include all games that are "role-playing" in style, with the main criterion that it be human-mediated as to what happens next in the story. If the mediation is a group effort (as in "GM-less" RPGs) that would be fine, as long as it's not strictly rules-based (as in a board or card game). All mediums of RPGs would be welcome, including face-to-face tabletop, online virtual tabletop (VTT), play-by-post, play-by-chat, and Live-Action Role Playing (LARP). [LARPs might be a bit tricky as I'm not sure we'll have the expertise around to start, but anything clearly RPG-inspired with human-mediated storytelling should be fine to try asking.]

This says to me that there's some interest in LARPs and some recognition that some guidelines need to be established. So yes, let's discuss that. LARPs involve role-playing to varying extents and have rules systems, some probably more formal and some less so. Let's figure out what fits. (I've never LARPed but I've done some True Dungeon adventures; does that count?)
